The academic research is an essetial component to assure the innovation potential to German's future competitiveness. Thereby the professional technology transfer especially in the life sciences sector plays a decisive role. BIO Deutschland supports technolgy transfer by direct co-operation with different agencies. BIO Deutschland sees itself as the single voice of the German biotechnology industry in society and politics. The aim of BIO Deutschland is the establishment of an independent representation of all companies which are active in the German biotechnology sector to reach an international positioning of this sector. The support and catalyst for the establishment of an innovative and well-financed industry sector within the German economy on the basis of modern biosciences is another focus of BIO Deutschland. Furthermore BIO Deutschland is the national and european political lobbying of the legislature and a network to support German Bio-Regionen (Bio-Regions).

The portal for international cooperation in education and research "Kooperationen international" is a communication platform for those seeking information and cooperation partners in Germany and abroad. The Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) gives a contribution to promoting the cross-border networking of research institutions and educational establishments and stimulating the initiation of collaborations. This portal can be used by all those who would like to cooperate with non-German partners in the areas of research and education, are interested in cross-border projects, or require guidance or intermediary services in this field, e.g. researchers, developers and scientists, students, research institutions, universities and intermediary organizations and companies.

Waseda is one of Japan's top private, co-educational institutions of higher learning. Founded in the year 1882 as a college with three departments under the old Japanese system of higher education, it has since grown to become a comprehensive university with two senior high schools and a School of Art and Architecture.
